If I Had Eyes - Jack Johnson Cover by tadamsk1
Before Jack Johnson perfected his rock star ways, he was a champion surfer on the professional route with a sponsorship with Quiksilver. Born May 18, 1975, Jack Johnson grew up on the north shore of the island of Oahu in Hawaii. It was a life that was second nature for this Hawaiian native, for he began chasing waves as a toddler, and by the time he was 17, he was an outstanding athlete on the Pipeline.
The title sounds a bit worrying - why doesn’t he have eyes? But the song is actually about losing someone you love when a long term relationship ends and not expressing how you feel. “If I had eyes in the back of my head I would have told you that you looked good as I walked away.” Although it’s a sad song-lyric wise, the sound means you won’t get depressed and he does talk about winning
someone back. It’s the first track to be released from his new album Sleep Through The Static (released 4 February 2007) and is very similar to the sound of his first album.
If you were addicted to In Between Dreams two years ago, then you’ll like this one too. It has a funky, steady rhythm with a touch of electric guitar on top of his usual acoustic style. While i’m not a huge departure from Jack Johnson’s past music, this song holds up well to numerous and successive plays. ‘If I Had Eyes’ is a soothing and catchy Jack Johnson tune. It bodes well for the rest of the album, ‘Sleep Through the Static’. I think Jack Johnson’s new song is amazing. It cheers you up on a rainy day. I hope he writes so more just like them.
