Out Last Night – Kenny Chesney ...
Kenny Chesney is a fairly popular American country singer and songwriter. His song Out Last Night which was released in May of 2009 received mixed reviews from country-western critics. It is an up-tempo song about the boys’ night out. It tells the story of what they did at the party they went to, the girls they met and the lies they’ve told (about being a doctor, a lawyer, a senator’s son, Brad Pitt’s brother and a man on the run) just to get the job done meaning getting the girls to follow them home. This song is meant to be a humorous take on the antics of the boys when they go out together to a party. However, Chesney’s version of the song doesn’t seem to convey the humour.
Jason Hall’s rendition of this song was equally humourless. The only humour I can see was from his sister who was there I guessed to give him moral support. While Hall was singing, she was making faces and that was funny and towards the end of the video, she was not seen except for her hands that were swaying to the music. That was amusing with Hall looking so serious and his sister doing all that stuff at the back.
Hall is an accomplished guitar player but his voice is not as great. He went off-pitch a few times and he’s too soft. His diction is bad and at times he just mumbled the lyrics. There’s no countryness to his voice. His vocal range is also limited and one can see that he finds difficulties in reaching some of the high notes. Overall, I will give Hall a score of 6 out of 10.
