The Climb- Miley Cyrus cover by rlyf7
Written by Jessi Alexander and Jon Mabe, “The Climb”, released last February 2009 by Hollywood Records, is the first single used by Miley Cyrus for the Hannah Montana: The Movie. “The Climb” was the first song that is to be aired and marketed both in country and pop radio. As Miley Cyrus had been seen as the ultimate idol of the teen and tween market, “The Climb” had made no effort to provide proper distinction between pop and country music.
While producer John Shanks had notably arranged and combined sounds designed to powerfully mix pop ballad, Miley Cyrus had lent her powerful, solid, and clear vocals that gave the song an ultimate upbeat and positive soul. It is only fitting and appropriate to credit Miley Cyrus for rendering the song her energy and passion as a young performer as the lyrics created by the two foregoing country songwriters is downright inspirational and full of hope. As a clear reflection of the hope inherent in youth, “The Climb” most probably belongs to the list of hopefuls to be sung in the American Idol worthy to be included in the episode finale.
Selah J. Rauw had done a cover of Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb” and had generated a generous traffic and a number of followers herself. Primarily relying on her acoustic guitar, Rauw had followed and retained most of the song’s character and had done little, if there is, effort to make the song truly her. Her vocals, though not as powerful as Cyrus’, had been able to distinguish from the pop star as her voice is more reminiscent of Vanessa Carlton rather than the latter. No clear departure had been made and done by Rauw though it had been understandable since the video had been made to actually provide the audience the chords of the song. Since Rauw’s voice had been rather pitchy, her cover of “The Climb” had not provided and articulated the same intensity that the song had actually necessitated. Rauw had been deemed more fitting to do covers for songs that would create a chill-out and relaxing vibe rather than those of country style.
