Taylor Swift has a voice that reminds me of Avril Lavigne – young and vibrant and full of passion even though the two singers come from different genres. Being a country singer, one can detect the country twang in her voice reminiscence of Faith Hill. Her song, You Belong with Me, even though not as popular as Love Story, tells a tale of unrequited love. It is a song that should appeal to a lot of teenage girls who have crushes on the school jock.

The singer in this video has a nice, sweet and young voice. She, however, lacks the passion to successfully convey the message in the song. Country songs are all about telling a story – usually a story of love found, love lost and love unrequited. To sing a country song successfully one must sound passionate. There is however, neither emotion nor passion in this singer’s voice, her eyes or her movement. As they say, the eye is the window to one’s soul. A person’s emotion can be detected from the eyes. And when I see her eyes, it only conveys the lack of emotion she has for the song. She kept looking off-camera perhaps at the lyrics held on a card by somebody?

The music industry is a superficial industry. You are as good as your last performance. Presentation is important other than a good, strong voice. This singer does have the looks. She looks very presentable and well-dressed. She can go far relying on her looks but her voice is average. Nothing to be excited about. Her diction is satisfactory but at times I can hardly hear what she’s saying. Her voice is sweet but she doesn’t project it well.

However, with a little more practice and voice coaching, she can improve because she has the voice and she does sing in tune. On a scale of 10, I’ll give a 6.
